As preparations for the Bervie Gala heat up, organisers are looking for the brightest and best as they seek nominations for Citizen of the Year.

Annually, the residents in and around Inverbervie present a special award to someone who has contributed to the community and this year is no different.

Bervie Citizen of the Year (over 18) and Bervie Young Citizen of the Year (under 18) is currently going through the nomination stage.

If you would like to nominate someone you think deserves recognition then do so in writing stating your name and address, your nominee’s name and your reason for nominating them.

The awards are presented on Bervie Gala day, which this year falls on Saturday June 21.

Nominations can be emailed to Caroll Evans at

Speaking to the Leader and Observer, Caroll said: “This is the fourth year I have co-ordinated the nominations for Citizen of the year and Young Citizen of the year on behalf of a very busy gala committee.

“I thoroughly enjoy the nomination process, and I am very grateful to be involved, receiving some wonderful write ups about local heros and volunteers and reading their stories.

“There are so many busy Bervie residents that deserve recognition for the work they do on our behalf, that this award is very important to show our appreciation and to say ‘we have outstanding residents who deserve to be recognised’

“The Young citizen of the year is something I take great pride in, showcasing our youngsters and how they are also a big part of our community.

“We have had a great response to the nominations this year again.

‘‘I have received dozens by post, email and Facebook which are all printed.

The people with the most votes are awarded citizen and young citizen of the year on gala day.”
