The Stonehaven Highlang Games, which were due to take place this Sunday, July 21, have been cancelled for operational reasons.
A statement was released on the Glenfiddich website who were due to sponsor the games, which stated: “We regret to advise that, for operational reasons, Stonehaven Games have been cancelled this year.”
Members of the public have been in contact with us when we posted the news on our Facebook page.
Emily Watson, who commented on our post, said: “ I was looking forward to it. Found it on the whats on in Stonehaven website - it’s still there and a link to dates and times ect. Disappointing.”
While the news that the games have been cancelled has met with disappointment, Lisa Dyson noted on our Facebook post that competitors have known for weeks about the news.
She said: “It’s been cancelled a while now, I don’t understand why they are leaving it till now to announce it.
“As the mother of a highland dancer I’ve know it was cancelled for almost a month and I know some people knew a few weeks before me.
‘‘I think it may have been announced at Drumtochty Games in June.
“My daughter should have been competing, it’s the loss of a competition for all the dancers who need to compete to progress.”
