Stonehaven station wins award

STONEHAVEN railway station has scooped a top award.

The station was one of two stations in Aberdeenshire to win top awards in the Keep Scotland Beautiful scheme.

Stonehaven, along with Huntly station, achieved gold status in the inaugural railway awards.

Judges from the organisation visited nearly 350 stations, looking at staff performance on issues such as clearing litter, recycling and waste management.

ScotRail managing director, Steve Montgomery, said: “We are delighted that Stonehaven station achieved gold status. Our stations score highly in surveys of customer satisfaction and we look forward to the future involvement of Keep Scotland Beautiful in helping to raise standards even further.”

Steve Ewing, deputy station team manager for the Aberdeen area, praised everyone involved with brightening and maintaining the station. Mr Ewing added: “It’s a great result and tremendous news for the Horizon Project volunteers.”
