Finlay’s Fund have been given a massive boost thanks to the support of the hardy locals, after a whopping £4,000 was raised at the Stoney Stroll.
The event, held at Stonehaven’s Scout Hut on May 10 saw over 150 people take part in a walk to raise money for local lad Finlay Sangster, despite the less than ideal weather on the day.
The event was well attended for the duration of the day; Finlay’s Fund committee had arranged a variety of stalls and entertainment to make the day about spending time with family and friends as well as raising money. Stonehaven Lions did a fantastic job of ensuring everyone was well fed with the burgers donated by The Bay Fish and Chip Shop and The Tolbooth Restaurant donated the pudding - a delicious pannacotta with peanut cookie topping and homemade meringues. Further sponsorship from Leslies of Stonehaven and Rent From Mac meant the total money raised exceeded everyone’s expectations.
The committee were overwhelmed by the number of raffle donations made by locals, friends and family. Thanks go to James MacDonald Funeral Directors, Catherine Roy of Tranquility and Co-op David Street for their contributions of vouchers for the raffle and to everyone else who donated bottles and prizes.
Finlays mum Gail said: “Some of the strollers took it upon themselves to gain sponsorship for their part in the day, Finlay’s Fund are grateful to each and every one of those who helped up the total through sponsorship but a special thank to Lezley Clark who managed to raise over £1000 and Hamish Glennie for his £450 in sponsorship – such an amazing achievement. A massive pat on the back to all of the committee members who helped on the run up to the event and worked non-stop on the day – there wasn’t much time for them to get a break! A special mention to the non-committee members - Rebecca Davis, Jenny Crowe, Scott Mckenzie, Megan McKenzie, Craig Irvine and Jane Gilbert Lawrie. Thank you all for giving up your time. Here’s to next year!”
