Having beaten Buchan 4-1 in the return fixture a few weeks ago Stoney travelled with some confidence. Townsend fed Porter who sped clear only to hit it straight at the keeper .
Keeper Imray raised out to make a brave block one on one with a Buchan striker then sweeper Kelly hacked clear with Imray beaten. Towards the end of the first half Stoney were reliant upon Imray and her defence of Evans, Smith, Kelly and Christie who were all working hard Stoney in turn were breaking at pace on the counter using Porter skill and power and Kennedy’s pace to the maximum .
Buchan took the lead when Stoney failed to block a cross cum shot which sneaked in off the far post. If Buchan just about deserved a first half advantage the second half was very much dominated by Stoney. Kennedy posed problems and Buchan’s giant keeper was caught out dallying on the edge of her box as Kennedy slipped the ball past her for the equaliser. Townsend burst through two challenges and with Kennedy making a good decoy run Townsend slid it past the keeper on the edge of the box and with Stoney celebrating the keeper sprinted back and clawed the ball off the line. Then came the games most debateable point as Stoney appealed for handball as a Buchan striker controlled the ball on the left and blasted it in.
Stoney still pressed however with little time remaining a wonder half volley from Buchan’s permitted overage striker sealed a 3-1 win for the Quines.
