Stonehaven woman, Tara Gavan, raised over £400 taking on the Great Scottish Swim on August 24 to raise awareness for Reach Charity LTD.

Tara was born without the lower half of her left arm and has spent her life spreading the message that it is ability, not disability, that matters.

Reach Charity LTD has provided both Tara and her parents with invaluable support over the years, helping them cope with the physical and emotional challenges associated with physical disabilities.

Tara hopes that her participation in the Great Scottish Swim will encourage other people with physical disabilities to push themselves as far as they can go, while also raising money for a charity that is close to her heart.

An expected 2000 participants made the Great Scottish Swim the biggest open water swimming event in Scotland.

It was held for the first time in the majestic surroundings of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

Speaking to the Leader Tara said: “It went really well, the weather was nice and sunny too which was a bonus.

“I did it in under 50 minutes which I was happy with as my aim was an hour.

“It was a great feeling finishing the swim- a real sense of accomplishment. Charity swim in Loch Lomond is another thing I can tick off my bucket list.

“My just giving page is www.justgiving.com/Tara-Gavan which is still open for donations. “I’ve beat my target of £250, after a few cash donations, my total is sitting at £445.”
