Could the next big music star hail from the Mearns?

BBC producers for hit reality show ‘the Voice’ have confirmed that they will Stonehaven next Tuesday (May 19).

The show will be looking for participants for it’s fifth series, which will air next year, to follow in the footsteps of Falkirk’s Stevie McCrorie who won the competition this year. A assistant producer of the show told the Mearns Leader how they are travelling all across the UK into small towns looking to unearth a gem.

Jamie Foster Assistant Producer of The Voice Series 5 said: “When people think we are coming to Scotland they think of the likes of Glasgow and Edinburgh but we want to visit the smaller places and speak to people who may have thought about auditioning before.”

“We are going to be in Stonehaven next Tuesday and we’ve been lucky to speak to Chrissy, who is putting on a mini showcase event for us.

“It will be an informal setting so we can speak to those people and give them information on our process. It isn’t really an audition it’s a meet and greet and more personal approach.”

Since being contacted by the producers Chris Stirk, owner of Ma Simpsons in Stonehaven told the Mearns Leader that she has been inundated with messages.

She said: “It’s been non-stop since they got in touch with me.

“I’ve actually had to turn of chat on my Facebook as the amount of messages I was receiving crashed my computer.

“Were hoping to get through around 40 people on the night and anybody who has not applied to me should not just turn up on Tuesday and expect to be allowed to sing, that won’t happen.”

Although the open auditions do not appear as part of the televised programme, if you are selected as being good enough you can make it through to the televised ‘Blind Auditions’.

The Voice is a reality television series that features four coaches looking for a talented new artist, who could become a global superstar.

The show’s concept is indicated by its title: the coaches do not judge the artists by their looks, personalities, stage presence or dance routines—only their vocal ability.

It is this aspect that differentiates The Voice from other reality television series such as The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent or even Must Be the Music.

This is the first time The Voice has travelled to Stonehaven with audition venues normally being reserved for large cities such as London, Glasgow, Cardiff or Belfast.
