Saturday, October 29, sees the next of an occasional series of events entitled ‘In Conversation at the Grassic Gibbon Centre’ in Arbuthnott.
Star of television and theatre Tony Roper (actor, comedian, playwright and writer) will be in conversation with Andy Hall and participate in an audience question and answer session.
Tony describes his thoughts on coming to the land of Sunset Song: “I’m delighted to be asked to take part in this event at the Grassic Gibbon Centre. As a drama student I was an extra on the televised sunset song and got the chance to meet Jessie Kesson, one of Scotland’s greatest writers.
“Also, to re-visit Stonehaven is a special treat not only for me but for my wife Isobel James, the White Heather Club dancer. Stonehaven was the scene of her first public appearance on stage.
“I’m looking forward as always to meeting up with Andy again. We know each other through his excellent photography. I paint these days in my spare time so I’ll take the opportunity to sketch or photograph some landscapes myself while I’m in the Mearns.”
Andy, who is also director of the centre, explained: “We are extremely lucky to have Tony as our next ‘In Conversation’ guest.
‘‘Tony’s talents are amazing in their diversity.
‘‘He has delighted television audiences for years as Jamesie Cotter in Rab C. Nesbitt, in Scotch and Wry on Hogmanay, in Only an Excuse on radio and in a whole variety of highly successful theatre perfomances including ‘Rikki and Me’, about the life of his great friend Rikki Fulton.
“One of his greatest achievements is having written “The Steamie” for theatre audiences, a moving and very funny insight into the ongoings of one of Glasgow’s most famous institutions. It will be a very special night.”.
Alongside the licensed event, there will be a two-course supper, a special raffle, a fun quiz put together by Brian Duncan and a special auction of a framed photographic print of Arbuthnott, signed by Andy and Tony.
The time of the event is 7pm for 7.30pm start. Tickets can be obtained priced at £20 directly from the Grassic Gibbon Centre on (01561) 361668 or by email on firstname.lastname@example.org.
