Bervie Caley u15’s put nine past Huntly

Bervie u15’s returned to winning ways following last week’s disappointing result against Culter. With Gordon missing, Boyd moved into the middle of the defence with Wood returning to the left back slot.

Bervie started the match against a strong wind but were on the front food immediately with Anderson finding McLaughlin whose through ball found Blacklaw however his touch was heavy and the keeper claimed.

With a strong wind in his face, Leisk was struggling to get much distance on his kicks and Bervie were finding themselves defending deep, however Avis did well down the right to win a corner from which McLaughlin’s effort went over.

Bervie grabbed the lead when a strong challenge in midfield saw the ball move forward and find McLaughlin who did well to hold off the defender and slot home as the keeper came out to challenge. Bervie were not having it all their own way though and Huntly continued to play the ball long and Leisk had to be alert to come out to clear from the forward’s feet.

Bervie were forced into an early change when Boyd had to come off owing to injury, meaning Smith moving into centre defence with Avis dropping back and Duggan coming on up front.

Bervie got their second in similar fashion to their first, the ball forward finding McLaughlin who held off the challenge to slide the ball home as the keeper came out to challenge.

Just when Bervie thought they had a grip on the game Huntly came back, a long ball forward caught Smith out and allowed the striker to slot home. With Bervie still trying to gather themselves, Huntly got an equaliser with almost an identical goal to their first.

Right on half time, Bervie had a chance to regain the lead with Blacklaw winning the ball and playing in McLaughlin who again went past his man but this time was forced wide. His pull back found Blacklaw but the effort went over.

Bervie started the second half knowing they had to sharpen up if they were to get back to winning ways and were on the attack straight away, Anderson was played in down the right but his effort was saved by the advancing keeper.

McLaughlin was then thwarted when Websters cross found him in the six-yard box only to be denied by a great save.

Bervie’s third wasn’t long in coming, though. Once again, McLaughlin was played in and this time the defender’s challenge was clumsy, leaving the referee no option other than to award a penalty, McLaughlin stepped up only to see his effort saved, however the ball broke back to McLaughlin and he made sure second time round.

Bervie were now dominating and Smith broke up play in the middle of the pitch. His ball found Anderson who fed Blacklaw who picked out Webster’s run forward and he made no mistake from just inside the box.

Bervie got a third when Blacklaw’s corner was met by McLaughlin whose header was well saved only for the defender to clumsily put the ball in his own net when trying to clear.

Bervie’s sixth came when Thomson played the ball into the box and Blacklaw met it on the half volley to leave the keeper no chance.

McLaughlin got his fourth of the match when played in and he slotted home. Bervie’s eighth was probably the best of the match, Duggan found himself wide on the left, stepping inside his man he calmly curled the ball home from an acute angle.

Huntly weren’t lying down and pulled one back when Thomson played a square ball to Webster in midfield which was intercepted. Avis was unable to get a challenge in and the forward cut inside and clipped the ball beyond Leisk.

Bervie wrapped up the scoring though when Thomson did well down the right before pulling the ball back only for a defender to put the ball beyond his keeper when trying to clear.
