Bervie returned to league action on Saturday with the visit of Middlefield Wasps and started the match positively with a sting in their tail.

Their first chance came when Wood played the ball forward to Blacklaw whose effort was blocked for a throw. Montgomerie received the ball from the throw-in and played it across to Avis who was beaten by the keeper at the back post.

From a corner, Leisk came for the ball and missed it with a scramble resulting which was eventually cleared.

Leisk played the ball out to Webster who fed McHardy, he found Montgomerie after going past one man who fed Collie whose shot was saved.

Midway through the half, Gordon was withdrawn with Smith coming on at right back and Webster taking the captain’s armband and stepping into the middle of the defence.

Bervie were continuing to create chances and Avis went close.

Bervie finished the half off with Montgomerie going close with two efforts which went just wide.

The hosts started the second half looking to break the deadlock, with Montgomerie pressing and winning the ball back.

Bervie nearly grabbed the lead when Blacklaw sent over a deep cross, Smith retrieved and fed Avis whose effort came back off the bar.

Blacklaw tried his luck from the edge of the box, his effort was deflected onto the post and cleared.

Bervie finally got the goal when Blacklaw’s corner was headed into the air by the defender and Montgomerie was on hand at the near post to scramble home.

Bervie continued to dominate and Collie went close but the keeper did well to save.

Dominating possession, Bervie withdrew McHardy with Anderson coming on, he was immediately involved winning the ball and feeding Avis who found Salmond, and his ball found Blacklaw whose effort went just wide.

Bervie grabbed the second, though, when Montgomerie received the ball from Smith’s throw, fed Collie who set up scorer Sawyer.

Bervie had a third when Blacklaw drove into the box before firing home.

Morris, on for Avis, tested the keeper next, Anderson winning the ball and feeding him on the right hand side of the box where he stepped inside his man and fired low.

Leisk sent a big clearance forward which bounced over the defender allowing Collie to run through and calmly fire past the keeper.

Collie doubled his tally for the day when Morris’s deep cross was retrieved by Sawyer for him to square to Collie to tap home for Bervie’s fifth.

Not content with five the home side continued to press, Montgomerie swung in a great ball from the right which Anderson rose to meet but sent wide.

Salmond was next to go close, Smith playing in Morris on the right and his cross being met by Salmond at the back post only for the keeper to make a fine reflex save.

Bervie’s last chance fell to Collie, Webster bringing the ball out of defence to Anderson who played Collie in one on one with the keeper only to see the keeper save well.
