Faithlie prove too strong for Galaxy

Fraserburg side Faithlie Utd travelled to Fordoun having not played a competitive game since their summer league season finished eight weeks ago. However, they have continued to train twice weekly and play friendlies to prepare for a Scottish cup run and were a well organised side with a mix of youth and experience.

The home side made a dream start when Dean McComiskie cut in from the right and fired a wonderful strike over the Faithlie ‘keeper. The lead didn’t last long though and the visitors scored twice in quick succession to turn the game on its head.

Fordoun had a great chance to level at 2-1 after great work from Lloyd Henderson won a penalty kick but the ‘keeper got down to his left to save Derek Anderson’s spot. The visitors took full advantage and added four more goals before the break as they ruthlessly put Fordoun to the sword.

HT Fordoun Galaxy 1-6 Faithlie Utd

Fordoun set out with the aim of winning the second half and restoring some pride but Faithlie continued to dominate and added two goals early in the second half. Both sides made changes and the home side continued to compete but despite coming close through Dean McComiskie and James Mennie the Galaxy were unable to salvage anything from the game.

David Jamieson was by far the busier keeper and made some fine saves to prevent a cricket score as Faithlie Utd progressed to the quarter finals.
