Stonehaven made the trip to Lister Park on Saturday to take on Inverness City, with a McBookie.com McLeman Cup semi final place at stake.
The visitors had the first chance of note after 10 minutes, Sulkevicius seeing his free kick deflected by the wall and out for a corner.
The resulting ball in fell to Anderson whose shot appeared to be handled but no penalty was given despite Hive protests.
Inverness were next to threaten and the Stonehaven defence did well to clear the corner.
Just a minute later, the home side were left at a numerical disadvantage as they were reduced to 10 men for an off the ball incident. Sulkevicius saw himself end up in the referee’s book shortly after albeit for much less of an indiscretion.
With 21 minutes on the clock the deadlock was broken. A ball in from McTavish was punched clear by the ‘keeper but only as far as ANDERSON who steered into the net from 12 yards.
Five minutes later the hosts came close to equalising when the ball was played out wide and a cross fell to the back post but the header went just over Capstick’s crossbar.
The home side threatened again on 34 when Capstick did well to push a free kick out for a corner.
The Hive had the last chance of the half when Pyper sent a searching diagonal ball into the box but it was headed over the top.
Half Time - Inverness City 0 v 1 Stonehaven
Stonehaven had the first chance of the second half when a Pyper cross found McWilliam who did well to control but his shot flashed wide of goal.
The second goal wasn’t far away and it duly arrived on 53 minutes. Shand did well on the right to send in a cross which found the head of Pyper who headed into the ‘keeper’s top left hand corner.
Inverness came close just a minute later to reducing the deficit but their corner, luckily for Stonehaven, flashed across goal and out of play.
Substitute Stewart was next to threaten on 58 when he did well to turn on the edge of the area but flashed his shot wide of the far post.
Anderson was next to try his luck a minute later but could only send his shot over the top. On 64 minutes a ball down the right saw Stewart beat his man but his low cross was cut out at the front post.
Capstick had to be alert just a minute later as the ball wasn’t cleared and he did well to deal with the shot from the edge of the area.
The hosts came close again on 70 minutes when the ball was switched from left to right but the resulting shot flashed back across Capstick’s far post.
With quarter of an hour left to play the home side got themselves back into the game. The ball was lost in midfield and fell to Urquhart who took the ball on and shot low under Capstick.
Inverness pressed in search of an equaliser as time ran out and on 86 minutes they came close when a header wasn’t cleared but the second ball through went wide of the Hive goal.
Shand came close in the last minute of normal time as his shot from the edge of area cannoned back off the near post and off of the ‘keeper but the resulting corner came to nothing.
Stewart tried his luck shortly after but the ‘keeper was equal to his effort.
The last chance fell to Anderson after good play between Stewart and Pyper but the shot was blocked when it looked to be easier to score.
