Johnshaven had their first midweek end of season fixture against top of the league Echt.
Despite having a man sent off early into the second half they showed some true Wairds Park battling spirit to come away with a point.
After a hugely disappointing result and performance in their last game against Dyce, manager Williams made several changes to this starting line-up. Craig Taylor and Lachlan Craig were both given their first starting debuts and both impressed hugely.
Johnshaven were given a reminder why Echt were top of the league when an attacker showed great footwork to create space and his shot hit the top of the crossbar.
Scott Spink was on hand to pull off a great save when in a one on one position with the attacker to keep the scores level.
Both Bailey and Craig were giving their full backs all sorts of problems and when Bailey crossed for Craig, the 15 year old could only direct his shot narrowly wide of the post.
Five minutes before half time Johnshaven were penalised for a deliberate pass back. With all eleven players in the line though they stood brave and blocked the incoming shot.
Johnshaven haven’t had a game for a few weeks now and knew they would face an uphill task in the second half against a fit Echt team. Things were made a lot harder though when Johnshaven had a player sent off after just 3 minutes of the second period.
Manager Williams acted quickly and Dunn and Craig were replaced by Stephen and Cammy Spink as they reverted to a 4-4-1.
The away team failed to make the extra man count for a while though and the best chance of the half fell after 65 minutes to Blease whose header from a corner was straight into the ground and into the keeper’s hands.
This served as a kick up the backside for the table toppers though and they finally took the lead after 67 minutes when an attacking midfielder struck a half volley on the edge of the box giving keeper Spink no chance.
In past games the home team’s heads would have gone down but this evening there was nothing of the sort. And just 3 minutes later Darren Forbes struck an unbelievable strike with his ‘weaker’ left foot that flew into the top corner. Score 1-1.
With 20 minutes to go Sword and Stuart Beedie replaced the exhausted Harrison and Bailey
Echt threw everything at Johnshaven but keeper Spink was having an absolute stormer in goal pulled off no less than four superb reaction saves when it looked like Echt were certain to retake the lead.
Mallie replaced Taylor towards the end.
There was time for Spink to make one final save at the end as he pushed out an effort for a corner. Echt put nearly everyone up for the set piece but the Johnner back line, like the whole match, threw everything they had at the ball to clear as the ref blew for full time.
