Point earned for Bervie

Fordoun Galaxy were looking to extend their six-game winning run in the league at home to Bervie, who were tough opposition in the reverse fixture.

The home side made a great start when a Nathan Keddie free kick was spilled by the keeper, and James Mennie was on hand to stab home from close range.

Fordoun tried to build on their lead, but were caught on the counter-attack when Jordan Greig broke into the left hand side of the box and, when his shot looked to be creeping past the post, a team mate was on hand to finish the job.

Galaxy went back in front after a sublime pass from Darren Cruickshank teed up Nathan Keddie, who finished well.

It looked as though Fordoun would lead at the break as the game moved into first half injury time, but once again Jordan Greig drove into the box – and this time he didn’t need any help to draw the visitors level.

HT: Fordoun Galaxy 2

Bervie 2

The Galaxy had the better of the the opening stages of the second half, but failed to convert their chances as the Bervie defence and keeper were up to the task in hand.

However, when a corner was only partially cleared by the visitors, Ricki Cruickshank – making his Fordoun debut – finished well inside a packed penalty box to restore the Fordoun lead.

James Mennie fired home his second of the game to give Galaxy a 4-2 lead with around 20 minutes to play, and it looked as though Bervie were finally defeated.

However, the visitors were awarded a penalty kick when a Galaxy defender was deemed to have handled the ball, and while David Jamieson saved the initial effort, the penalty taker followed up to halve the deficit.

Fordoun had plenty of the possession in the closing stages, but couldn’t kill off the contest – and were punished when a defender slipped, allowing a Bervie attacker an opportunity which he did not pass up.

Goals late in each half had denied Fordoun the win and earned Bervie a point.

Fordoun: Jamieson; A Stirling; Mennie; R Deans; Davies (Anderson); Hector; Keddie; R Stirling; D Cruickshank; R Cruickshank and Thomson.
