FORDOUN lost their opening league game of the season when they went down to Hillside.
Fordoun struck first when a Murray corner was headed home by Keddie at the back post.
The match was turned on its head when Hillside made the most of two free kicks. The first was knocked over a two man wall and headed home for the equaliser. Fordoun didn’t learn their lesson and another free kick, this time further out on the other side of the pitch was again swung in and headed home to give Hillside the lead.
The setback seemed to give Fordoun the shake they needed. A quick break sent Murray down the left and his inch perfect cross was met by centre half Cruickshank who made no mistake with his header to equalise. It wasn’t long before Fordoun were back in front after Keddie weaved through the midfield and fed Thomson who blasted home.
The home side had their tails up and added a fourth before half-time when the ball broke to Keddie on the edge of the box and he finished expertly.
Hillside made a quick start to the second half. A cross came in and the ball was sent past Milne for an own goal.
Hillside were on top at this point and it wasn’t long before they were level, more pressure on the Fordoun goal ended when Milne couldn’t prevent a shot from inside the area hitting the back of the net. The visitors didn’t slow down and were soon in front when another attacker shot home to make it 5-4 and a debut victory which had seemed unlikely at half-time was in their grasp.
