Victoria Park, Brechin was the venue for the League Cup final and it was Fordoun who finally won on penalties to lift their first-ever trophy.

Galaxy struck first when Michael McLaren put them ahead after a free flowing move involving Derek Anderson and Michael Deans.

Galaxy couldn’t build on their lead and Golf Inn’s Craig Maddock scored a double to turn the game on its head, the second on the stroke of half time.

A foul on Michael Deans gave Nathan Keddie the chance to equalise from the spot and he made no mistake.

Michael McLaren then scored his second of the match to put Fordoun ahead but they couldn’t hold out and Jack Rodger equalised again for the Golf Inn making it 3-3 at 90 minutes.

Jack Rodger became the third player to score a double when he made it 4-3 to the Golfie in extra time. Then when Derry Simpson was giving his marching orders to leave Fordoun with 10 men it looked to be game over.

However, Fordoun had other ideas and Nathan Keddie won then scored a penalty to level at 4-4 and send the final to penalties.

Ryan Murray, Andrew Stirling and Nathan Keddie (for the third time of the afternoon) made no mistake from the spot. Marc Milne denied the second and fourth Golfie penalty takers with inspired saves before Derek Anderson stepped up to seal the first trophy in Fordoun’s short Welfare League history.

Galaxy captain Andrew Stirling raised the trophy aloft amid joyous scenes.
