As a result he lifted the prestigious Spence Trophy, becoming the third Stonehaven golfer to do so after Andrew Locke (1990) and Ross Anderson (2009).

Other previous winners of the Spence Trophy include current tour professionals Richie Ramsay and Greg Hutcheon.

In his semi final match the 17 year old came from behind to defeat Kieran Spence of Portlethen at the first extra hole.

In the final Kiefer played a faultless round of golf in testing windy conditions - to defeat Ben McIntosh from Peterhead by 6 and 5.
