Banks o’ Dee 5
Stonehaven went into last Friday night’s game against Banks o’ Dee at Spain Park, looking to get back to winning ways in the Superleague following the 2-2 draw at Longside in their previous outing.
Hive kicked off but lost the ball almost immediately and before they could win it back they were 1-0 down. Hutchins picked the ball up on the right, cut inside and passed two defenders before curling a shot past Smith.
It took until the 10th before Stonehaven had any sort of meaningful input. A free-kick played to the back post found McCall who flashed his shot past the far post. Minutes later Horne went on a run down the right but his cross found McCall who shot wide.
Stonehaven were made to pay just two minutes later when the hosts went 2-0 up. A quick ball upfield found Lynch who came inside and had plenty of time to pick his spot and curl past Smith from the edge of the area.
This seemed to sting Stonehaven into action and minutes later a Murray free-kick found Lewis Shand whose shot flashed wide. A minute later Lewis Shand did well down the left to get the ball in but despite plenty chances to finish, none were taken and the danger was cleared.
The deficit was halved in 26 minutes when Horne curled a free-kick past Robertson from 20 yard.
The hosts soon restored their two goal cushion after the defence failed to clear a Turnbull corner and the ball was squeezed in.
It was 4-1 soon after when a Hive free kick was cleared and Banks o’ Dee broke quickly. Jack sprinted clear and scored with his second effort after Smith did well to block his initial shot.
On the stroke of half-time McCall scored with a header to make it 4-2
Stonehaven made a substitution at half-time with David Glass going on for Scott Pyper.
The second half started in same vein as the first with the hosts pressing from the off and within 10 minutes it should really have been 5-2. The ball was played down the right and crossed in for Hutchins but he sent his header wide of target when it looked easier to score.
Stonehaven were on the receiving end of a harsh penalty award just minutes later when Low was judged to have fouled in the box. Hutchins stepped up and sent Smith the wrong way to make it 5-2.
The Hive were fortunate that it wasn’t six minutes later when a ball through fell to Hutchins whose shot was blocked by Smith.
A good run by Murray down the Hive right saw the ball reach Horne but his back heeled shot was saved by Robertson in the Banks o’ Dee goal.
Five minutes later a Stonehaven corner from the left was played in, headed back across goal and scrambled off the line.
The deficit was reduced with 10 minutes remaining when Horne scored a great goal to set up a frantic finish.
Stonehaven had efforts from substitutes Glass and Duncan saved as they pressed to get back on level terms but it wasn’t to be and the hosts ran out 5-3 winners.
