Late goal gives Bervie victory

With players missing Bervie were forced into two changes to their starting line-up, Wood in at left back and Thomson up front.

Bervie had an early chance when Anderson had an effort blocked.

Karpinski took a quick throw to Anderson and the forward had his cross blocked for another corner. Karpinski was next to try his luck with a good effort from the edge of the box, however the keeper saved well.

Davies was tripped on the edge of his own box, S. Smith took a quick free kick playing the ball forward to Avis who was brought down as he pressed forward.

After this positive early start Bervie fell out of the match with play in the middle of the pitch becoming very scrappy and Bervie unable to produce the final ball. The half ended with Bervie bringing on Morris for Thomson as they searched for that final pass to take advantage of all the possession they had.

Bervie started the second half well with some good interplay between McLaughlin and Wotherspoon with the latter’s shot going narrowly wide.

However the game quickly fell back into the same pattern as the first half and a rare effort on goal saw Morris go close with an effort which had the keeper beaten however was also just wide.

Bland was introduced with 25 minutes to go to try and provide some further bite into the middle of the pitch. On a rare break forward Insch tested Leisk from distance, however the Bervie keeper did well to get down to his right to make the save.

With 5 minutes to go Bervie won a corner on the left and Davies did well to flick the ball on however it was cleared off the line by Insch.

With the game seemingly heading for a goalless draw Bervie continued to press forward and Karpinski won a throw on the right. Anderson flicked the ball on to McLaughlin who controlled the ball before shooting low into the far corner to give Bervie the lead and a narrow victory.

This was without doubt Bervie’s poorest performance of the season however they never gave up hope and continued to press the home team and did well to grind out the win. Man of the match was Andrew Wood who put in a good performance at left back.
