Luthermuir 2 Westdyke 3 (aet)

BACK on March 19, Luthermuir lost after extra-time to Westdyke on the second round of the Association Cup.

Luthermuir opened the scoring through Scott McCombie.

Westdyke equalised with a good strike from 25 yards which went across Hall and into the top corner.

The second half was an excellent game as both sides pressed for a winner and Luthermuir thought they had got it in 85 minutes when Ewan Slesser scored to make it 2-1 with a toe poke at the front post after Greig had crossed the ball. Luthermuir lost an equaliser in injury-time when a ball was retrieved from the byline and crossed in where an attaker hit a dipping shot that went over Hall and into the net forcing extra-time.

In extra-time Stuart Lindsay scored the only goal into his own net to send Westdyke through 3-2.

A week later, Luthermuir again lost 3-2 aet, this time to Nicol’s X1 in the third round of the AFC Cup, thus ending their interest in cups for the season.

Luthermuir welcomed an RGU side with title aspirations on April 2 but were forced into playing the game without a recognised goalkeeper as Morrison donned the gloves.

Luthermuir created their first chance on fifteen minutes when some good play by Ryan Taylor and Greig saw Bremner get a shot away. The keeper parried his near post effort as far as Anderson on the six yard line but his left footed effort hit a defender on the line then the grounded goalkeeper and was hacked away.

Despite having defended comfortably, Luthermuir lost a poor opening goal. The ball was played by Morrison to Darar and he played a dangerous ball to Reid across the face of his own box which was seized upon and slammed into the Luthermuir net.

The only goal of the second half came when Reid was adjudged to have committed a foul in midfield. The RGU right back swung an excellent cross to the back post where a RGU player headed down into the ground past the exposed Morrison.
