Luthermuir WFC

Luthermuir Team 4-4-2: Aitken, Murray (Lawrence), Lynch (Smith), Middleton, Hendry (Burns), Clark (Cochran), Forbes, Barker, Young, Bruce, Crichton (Hair) – Subs: Stewart

Luthermuir Women were looking to start the second half of the season with a good win against Dundee City. In their first ever competitive game back in March they were unlucky to lose 3-2 away from home so they were looking to gain revenge. Straight from the start Dundee pressed Luthermuir into their own half and after two minutes had a free kick out wide.

This was fired towards goal and cannoned back off the cross bar where it was then cleared by the home defence. This was an early wake up call for the Muir girls and they then controlled more of the game for the next 10 minutes without being able to break down the Dundee defence. On 12 minutes a free kick deep into the away teams half was fired in to the box by Hendry where it was just headed wide by Young.

It took only two minutes later where Luthermuir took the lead another free kick by Hendry was fired to the back post where Young headed it down to Forbes and she slotted it home on the stretch for 1-0. The lead did not even last two minutes when they ball was played down the left hand side by Dundee City and Johnston cut along the 18 yard line and fired a shot over Aitken for 1-1. On 23 minutes a great ball down the left was collected by Bruce and she whipped a ball to the back post where it was missed by everyone, Hendry collected the ball 30 yards out and fizzed a shot just over the cross bar.

For the next ten minutes the game was even with both teams sharing equal position but unable to create a clear cut chance to trouble either goal keeper. On 35 minutes Dundee took the lead when a corner was fired into the six yard box and a free header by Kyle for 2-1.

Straight from the kick off Luthermuir pressed down the left and Bruce gained good ground before whipping over a cross that was just put over the cross bar by Young from 6 yards. Luthermuir made a change before half time with bringing on Cochran for Clark.

HT 1-3

Luthermuir started the second half wanting to get back in this game and straight from the kick off created the first chance when the ball was played high to the edge of the box and Cochran headed it down to Young and she layed the ball to the side for Forbes to fire just wide of the post. On 51 minutes a free kick out wide was fired into the box by Lawrence and it was just cleared for a corner, the resulting corner was cleared by Dundee City.

Five minutes later Barker worked well with Bruce to release her into the box but her tame shot was collected by the Dundee keeper. The game seemed to struggle to get going for the next 15 minutes with no chances being created and a number of subs used by Luthermuir.

On came Hair and Smith for Crichton and Lynch with Luthermuir pressing for this equaliser. On 75 minutes another chance was created when Bruce crossed but is was missed by Young at the back post. Luthermuir made their final change on 77 minutes with Hendry being replaced by the more attacking Burn.

With Luthermuir pressing for the equaliser they were caught on the break on 84 minutes when a ball down the line was picked up by the attacker, she raced into the box and Aitken made a great stop but as the ball rolled out to the edge of the box it was fired low into the net to seal all three points for Dundee City.

This knocked the stuffing out of Luthermuir girls and the game ended with Dundee City on top with some great saves by Aitken to keep the score at three one.
