With Ride the North over for another year Stonehaven Cycling Club has officially formed and is open to membership.
A large number of riders in the two day cycling challenge Ride the North were from Stonehaven so the club was formed due to the high number of cyclists in the town and surrounding area.
Nicola Laurenson from the Stonehaven Cycling club spoke to us this week to tell Kincardine and Mearns about the clubs launch.
She said: We have been overwhelmed with the rapid number of memberships we have had to date, currently sitting at 118. Although cycling is growing in popularity we think the progression of the club has been remarkable, given the size of Stonehaven.
“The idea to start the Stonehaven Cycling Club was Willie Tulloch and Emma Veitch’s, following the popularity of the weekly Turbo Training sessions that they organised over the winter months at the community centre. These highlighted to them the number of keen cyclist there are in Stonehaven, so as the lighter evenings approached it was decided that group rides would be held on a Wednesday and Thursday evening. “
The club vision is to be a ‘club for all’ and encourage everyone to get involved from across the area, including beginners.
The club have a Biker’s Ball Ceilidh scheduled for Stonehaven Town Hall on Friday November 6. Tickets cost £15.
