Halloween came early this year at Stonehaven GC when for the second week in a row a ghostly hush fell over the closed course, no tricks or treats for the early starters just the haunting memories of the previous week.
Not to worry all the green keepers hard work in the summer paid off as the course re-opened at 11am.
There were more revellers in the evening when, not guisers but our Ladies section brought some glamour to the clubhouse with their Annual prize giving dinner. Congratulations to all prizewinners. Our new ladies club champion, Gail Geraghty is pictured centre with the salver.
It must have been a good night because the next morning one of our leading ladies was seen taking a very delicate path to the first tee bacon roll and Irn Bru in hand ... Was there ever a better cure for a night of celebration? Talking of celebration, the gents prizegiving will be held next Saturday 7th November – tickets are still available.
The club will open longer hours on Friday and Saturday evenings over the winter season and high teas & meals will be available until 8pm subject to there being no additional function bookings at the club. The first “High tea” menu will be on offer Friday 6th November. Please call ahead to book.
This brings us nicely on to Sunday with bright skies and a full car park. Not only was there the usual hardy Winter League players but we also hosted a charity group event supporting a very worthy cause for one of their friends.
Despite the brisk wind and chilly conditions scoring was good and we are starting to see players already establishing strong positions in the league….and so to the leading scores:
J Nowak (41), I P Smith (40), S McGhie (38), A d Smith (37), D Hepburn (37), K Stephen, D Mitchell & M Rendall (all 36 points)
