Last Sunday Mackie Minis headed north to Ellon to attend their second mini rugby tournament of the season. Back in October they went to Kinross and put on a dogged, determined display to come away winners, last Sunday the result was the same but the display of rugby skills was so much different.
It was certainly a wake up call for the P5’s in their first match. The pace was intense and tackling ferocious.
It took both teams that game to get into their strides, but from then on, both started showing all the signs of huge progress made at training.
The months since the last tournament have seen much hard work by the boys in training and in other friendly events, and on Sunday the improvement really showed.
In mini rugby it’s relatively easy to get results with some talented individuals playing well, but the team playing together as a team will always be stronger and that’s where Mackie excelled at all age groups on Sunday. Mackie tackled, pressured, ran, defended, rucked and attacked as one big “Mackie Machine” and the results showed...an awesome display to result in that all Mackie age groups (P4-7) running out Ellon champions 2015.
Mackie lost only a couple of the matches played and then mainly only to the second Mackie team there.
It really showed the depth of talent in all squads that they came first and second in all age groups.
The club have said: “Thanks to Ellon for once again putting on a fun and very well organised tournament! But what a great day for Mackie Minis, only surpassed, once again, by the fantastic and vocal parents, without whom the kids would never get to the tournament. Well done for once again braving the Ellon weather.”
Next up: On Saturda April 25, from 10am at Mackie Academy, Watsonians are travelling up from Edinburgh.
