In the run up to the Beast Race which will take place on September 26 we are looking for Kincardine and Mearns residents who have signed up for the 10k obstacle course.
We want to highlight your stories and why you are getting involved with the Beast Race. This week we hear from Deeside Piper reporter, Mearns Leader contributor and self appointed team captain of ‘Sprint Journalism’, Martyn Simpson.
Five of our reporters are taking part in the Beast Race raising funds for CLAN. Martyn this week told us how his training was going...
Martyn said: “Judging by some of the comments on our JustGiving page our friends are getting quite upset at our constant badgering of them for donations.
“As of Monday morning we have raised £235, nearly a quarter of our £1000 target in just one week.
“We remain confident that we can raise the required cash but are hoping the people of Deeside, Mearns, Peterhead and Fraserburgh can help us out in raising our target for CLAN.
“From a training perspective things aren’t looking too bad for most of the guys.
“I personally suffered a minor set back last week when I injured my shoulder playing sports.
“While I feared it may have been a reoccurrence of a serious injury I suffered two years ago it now doesn’t seem as severe and I’m back on schedule with the fitness.
“The whole team are working hard both in the gym to prepare their bodies and on the emails and phones trying to raise donations. “We would be delighted if our readers could donate any amount, small or large to our efforts and they can do so by visiting www.justgiving.com/sprintjournalism.”
Next week The Mearns Leader’s Lee McCann gives his update.
