Newtonhill Netball Club travelled to Shetland recently to fulfil their Scottish Cup fixtures.
Both the u13s and u15s teams along with three coaches/umpires boarded the ferry at Aberdeen and braved a very stormy 12-hour crossing, arriving in Lerwick in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The girls only had a few hours to shake off their sea legs before the u13s took to the court against a very strong Shetland side.
The Newtonhill girls put up a spirited performance but the height and strength of the Shetland girls proved too much and Newtonhill went down 20-4.
All girls worked hard and put what they had been learning at training into action and player of the match went to Kirsty Duncan.
It was then the turn of the u15s to take on Shetland, knowing that only a win would keep them in the competition.
After a slow first half, the girls played their best netball of the season and fought their way to a well deserved 36-23 win.
After much deliberation, the coaches awarded player of the match to Meg Tulloch.
The victory secured the u15s a place in the quarter finals where they will face West Lothian Wildcats.
The club would like to thank Northlink Ferries for their support and our sponsors Sebsea, Broad Wealth Management, Fotheringham Property Developments, Arcadion and Maritime Assurance and Consulting Ltd.
In addition to the u13s and u15s the club also run two adult teams who play in the Aberdeen District league.
Anyone interested in playing netball should pop along to one of the training sessions.
Players of all ages and abilities are welcome, whether looking to play competitively or simply seeking to keep fit.
Training takes place at the Bettridge Centre in Newtonhill, at the following times:
Adults - Monday, 8pm - 9.30pm
Under 13 - Tuesday, 5pm - 6pm
