Queens Cross/Stoneywood Dyce 153 for 9, STCC 154 for 0
On the bounce from a thrilling victory away to Grammar last week, STCC look to transfer their winning form to the Bon Accord Cup.
On what was looking like the sunniest day of the year so far STCC captain, R.Devlin, wins the toss and elects to send QXSD into bat.
Strike bowler C.Findlay opens the bowling attack from the Hill End with a sharp start conceding only 1 run from the over.
The elder statesman, C.Hinchcliffe opens from the River End showing his junior strike partner how its done by taking the first wicket with just his third ball.
Hinchcliffe on a role takes two more wickets in his second over, taking the visitors to 13 for 3 in just the fourth over of the match. A good partnership between J.Stewart and T.Butt sees the visitors race quickly to 70 runs after just the 14th over. STCC captain R.Devlin decides upon a bowling change to try and break the cycle.
With the introduction of B.Campbell comes instant results with the first ball of his over dismissing J.Stewart for 48. T.Butt is joined by fellow middle order batsman F.Chowdry who seems to be QXSD’s highest scoring batsman of the season so far.
Knowing this, its imperative that he does not contribute too much or the visitors may have the upper-hand.
Unfortunately for STCC, the formidable force of T.Butt and F.Chowdry increase their score to 125 after 27 overs. The re-introduction of C.Hinchcliffe brings an immediate wicket dismissing F.Chowdry for 36. With the run-rate slowing down due to some excellent bowling from J.Gouws and G.Bonds at the other end, the batsmen begin looking unsteady! After a sharp burst from J.Gouws, sees three wickets fall in three overs costing just 6 runs, backed up by G.Bonds with his single wicket of the match.
The visitors were held to 153 for 9 from 40 overs and the teams break for tea.
Regular opening batsmen for STCC, R.Devlin and D.Crozier head out to the crease looking to set up the innings for the team, hoping to forge their way into the Semi Final of the Bon Accord Cup. Regardless of the Captain having a shoulder injury, R.Devlin and D.Crozier start clocking up the runs at a cracking pace.
D.Crozier reaches his first 50 of the season after the 20th over, shortly followed 6 overs later by the Captain, who also notches up his first 50 of the season.
With just a handful of runs remaining for STCC to get, D.Crozier retires hurt after jarring his right knee for 80. Joined at the crease by J.Crozier, in just 4 more overs, R.Devlin hit the winning runs leaving him on 60 n.o and J.Crozier on 5 n.o. A fantastic victory for the home team without loss of wicket, brings a much needed moral boost and confidence.
Following this victory, both team will meet again next week in the league, where STCC hope to replicate such a dramatic victory again.
Captains man of the match, D.Crozier for his fine display of batting skills and decisive vice captaincy role throughout the match.
