Young Sam Wright, just 20 years of age in only his second year as a senior, won Stonehaven’s first major of the season.
His nett 62 added to his 59 of last week meant his combined 121 won the Cowie cup trophy by three shots from Kevin Reid with Adam Smith a further three shots behind, Sam and Kevin also both qualify for the InnesMedal finals in September.
Sam got off to a great start on Saturday by birdying the first, however an eight at the third was to stop Sam in his tracks but he regrouped and played the remaining 15 holes in four over par for a gross 74.
In the Innes Medal class, one qualifier will be Iain MacLeod and Bob Leggate who both shared a nett 61 but by courtesy of countback Iain will be teeing it up at Royal Aberdeen on June 3 in a pre-qualifier for the Scottish Open pro am.
Bob Leggate, Bruce Ferguson and Chris Brown all qualified for the Captains cup.

Stonehaven, who were last year’s champions in the Deeside league, got off to a disappointing start by losing at home to Torphins. The team halved four matches and lost the other two to lose the match 4v2. Team captain Doug Lorimer will be looking bounce back away to Aboyne this week.
