Newtonhill 3

Luthermuir 3

A DRAW was probably a fair result when Mearns rivals Newtonhill and Luthermuir clashed last Wednesday in Division One East. Newtonhill will probably feel happier with the point as they fought back from 3-0 down to draw.

Luthermuir were on top at the start and after three minutes Greig turned and shot just over from 18 yards.

In 15 minutes a long ball by Wands was headed on by Craig to Ellis and his shot from 25 yards was saved well by home keeper Stubbs.

luthermuir took the lead in 20 minutes. Stubbs cleared the ball straight to Craig on the halfway line. Greig ran to the byline and his cutback to the penalty spot was drilled home by Ellis.

it was 2-0 five minutes later. Young won the ball and chipped it over the Newtonhill defence for Greig to run clear. Greig crossed to the edge of the box and Anderson finished the move off low into the corner.

In 26 minutes some great play by Luthermuir released Ellis down the wing and his first time cross driven just over by Anderson.

the visitors made it 3-0 on the half hour. Greig cut inside along the 18 yard line and set up Ellis who drilled his shot across the keeper.

Newtonhill got a goal back when a Milsom cross was headed home by Keith. Luthermuir continued to press and an Ellis volley was saved by Stubbs, then an Ellis header was kept out by the keeper.

Newtonhill started the second half well and a Carmichael header was turned round the post by Wands, then a Blacklaw header was tipped on to the bar by the keeper.

Newtonhill got a second goal in 51 minutes when Blacklaws shot into the top corner with Wands stranded.

The home side the levelled the scores when Milsom sent a curler into the top corner.

The game flowed from end to end as both teams went for the three points.

In 70 minutes Young put Anderson in but Stubbs saved well.

Eight minutes later a great cross by Morrison found Reid at the back post but his header went just wide.

At the other end, Barazza and S. Christie went close for Newtonhill.

luthermuir had the last chance five minutes from time. Greig was put through by Ellis, but Stubbs made another fine save.
