Last Saturday Stonehaven Thistle 1st XI played their first game of the season against Knight riders 2nd XI.
The two sides have had close games in the past and this game was not going to be an exception.
With the weather forecast looking good R.Devlin, STCC captain, won the toss and elected to bowl first. The opening bowler, C.Findlay, started well bowling a maiden in his first over and C.Hinchciff followed up with another maiden.
The final overs of the game saw the tail end of KRCC batsmen fall in quick succession and finished 99 all out and N.king finishing on 4 for 28 off 12 overs. J.Mathews finished 2 for 12 off 5 overs.
After tea STCC were into bat and opening batsmen R.Devlin and M.Cohen took to the crease against KRCC medium pace opening bowlers, Prashanth and Bijin. In the fourth over R.Devlin played a beautiful shot off a full length ball and manages to score four runs. In the 10th over the wicket of R.Devlin fell to a catch taken off the bowling of Bijin. STCC now 11 for 1 after 10 overs.
STCC were 25 for 2 after 15 overs. Four overs later J.Mathews succumbs to the bowling of Prashanth and is out for 11 runs. R. Van Gijssel is his replacement and continues to increase the strike rate, scoring his first 6 of the season however was caught off the bowling of P.Ballal.
Replacemnet A.Prothero caught an inside edge onto the stumps and was out for 9 runs. STCC 72 for 5 after 37 overs. B.Donnelly takes to the crease next and has the job of getting B.cambell on strike to finish off the run chase.
The pair continue until the 44th over where the wicket of B.Campbell falls, out for 24 runs, and STCC need 18 runs off 8 balls to win. However the KRCC bowlers do not change their tactics and C.Findlay, G.Bonds both are bowled for a duck and then B.Donnally falls for 1 run.
STCC 1st XI losing by 17 runs to KRCC 2nd XI.
The match ball sponsor was Mchardys Butchers of Stonehaven and next week STCC 1st XI face Gordonians 2nd XI away and STCC 2nd XI face Turrif at home.
