Mackie lose Rugby season opener

Mackie Academy FPs RFC kicked off their new BT Caledonia League Division 1 season with an away loss in forfar to Strathmore.

The Stonehaven side left Inchmacoble as 39-14 losers after conceding two early tries and trailing 19-0 at one point.

Mackie came back into the game with a try from the wing but we’re unable to match Strathmore for scoring.

The Game, however, was a much closer affair in terms of scoring than the last time the sides met in Forfar when Strathmore came away 55-7 winners last April.

The other results saw at the weekend saw Glenrothes get the better of Carnoustie 36-3 and Caithness dominate Harris Academy and win 52-0.

Gordonians against Dunfermline was postponed as the Fife side were unable to raise a front row and the other fixture, Alloa against Aberdeen Wanderers was also postponed.

Wanderers were only entered into the league last week after Deeside were forced to pull out and drop down a division back to caley 2 after losing 18 first team players from their squad during the summer.

The news means that there will be no long-awaited Stonehaven-Bnachory derby this season.
