Local Sea Cadets competed at The Sea Cadets 2011 National Combined Regatta held on Saturday at London ExCel, the 2012 Olympic rowing venue.
The cadets representing Northern Area (Scotland & Northern England) competed against cadets from throughout the United Kingdom in a variety of waterborne events including rowing, paddlesports and boat handling.
The results for the Northern Area, while perhaps not as good as in previous years, our teams still managed to gain medals and put in a very creditable showing. Massive well done to all the staff and cadets who have worked so hard since April to prepare for the National Combined Regatta.
Stonehaven were defending two titles from last year and were pipped into second place in both by the narrowest of margins. In the Boathandling Rowing Stonehaven were beaten into second place by two points with Nottingham Unit the winners of the Mitchell Trophy whilst the Unit’s Junior Boys rowing crew came second to eventual winners Port Talbot. The Stonehaven Boys Open rowing crew were placed 5th, Peterhead’s Girls Open rowing crew 4th and Dundee were placed 6th in the Boathandling Sailing section.
