Two wins for Fordoun

Fordoun Galaxy have been racking up the points. They thrashed Picture House 7-0 on Thursday, then on Sunday beat near neighbours Fettercairn 3-1.

Fordoun pinned back the House in the opening exchanges and Tough hit the bar after an R Welsh corner in 8 minutes and 6 minutes later McComiskie fired over.

From a corner R Welsh played the ball short to Norrie who crossed for Tough to head home and give Galaxy the lead.

In 24 minutes the visiting number one made an error which gifted A Stirling a chance which he put past the post and shortly after McComiskie worked himself some space before shooting over.

It was 2-0 in 38 minutes when A Stirling tapped into an empty net after another R Welsh cross.

A third goal came four minutes before half-time when another R Welsh cross wasn’t cleared and Cuthill fired home. Two minutes before half time a Keddie chip was clawed away by the keeper for a corner which went straight in from the boot of R Welsh.

Three minutes into the second half Deans shot into the keeper’s arms after an R Welsh corner. I Welsh finally had a save to make in the 64th minute when he pushed away a shot from distance.

It was 5-0 Galaxy after 70 minutes when Deans crossed from the left and Keddie steered the ball over the line.

Two minutes later McComiskie cut along the byline and got a shot away which was deflected onto the bar by the House keeper. The ball broke into the box where a foul was committed and Fordoun earned a penalty kick. R Stirling saw his spot kick saved before scoring from the rebound. With 5 minutes to play Norrie swung in a cross which was turned into his own net by a House defender to make the final score 7-0.

It was Fettercairn who had the best of the opening 10 minutes and forced I Welsh into a great double save. The visitors fought back into the game and got themselves ahead when Thomson got onto the end of a great delivery from R Welsh and forced the ball home. Fordoun built on the goal and were in control of the rest of the first half, Fettercairn did force a corner or two but it was the visitors who went in at half time with slender lead.

Deans doubled the Galaxy advantage after half time when he was on hand to finish from close range after the home keeper spilled the ball.

Fettercairn were starting to get frustrated but did find a way back into the match when, after a period of pressure, an attacker fired past Welsh.

Tempers began to fray and referee Brian Darcy needed eyes on the back of his head to keep control but the veteran whistler kept his calm though and quickly restored order.

Keddie then restored Fordoun’s two goal advantage after being fed by Murray from the left wing.

It finished 3-1 and Fordoun had completed the double over their closest rivals for the first time since joining the Welfare League.
