Winter league finals snowed-off

The conclusion of the Winter League finals will have to wait for another week as the snow which fell early on Sunday morning closed the course prior to the start of the second round of games and the finals will hopefully be concluded this Sunday.

Leading the singles with the round of the day on Saturdays cold blustery conditions was Steve McGhie with 38 stableford points taking a commanding six-point lead into the remaining 18 holes over Jim Lonie and Ian Smith, one point further behind is Mike Rendall on 31 points.

Leaving themselves a difficult task to clraw anything back are Richard Tindall and Donald Mitchell with 28 points along with Frank Urquhart who had 25.

There is a tie at the top of both the Handicap and Scratch doubles competitions.

In the scratch, Neil Irvine and Harry Roulston are level with Kevin Riddell and Ross McAllan scoring level par 66s, one shot ahead of Stuart Dempster and Barry Mcgillivary. Colin Arthur and Alan Officer’s score of 70 requires something special to make any sort of come back. The nett score of 60 was achieved by the pairings of George Deans and Gordon McHardy and Craig MacKay and Jim Hepburn both groups are two strokes ahead of Tom Simpson and Alistair Barnett.

The lowest combined handicapped pairing of Kenny Duncan and Ian Wood struggled to make any head way in the difficult conditions and returned a score of nett 67.

Tee times start this Sunday from 8.30 am onwards.
