Excitement is brewing in Stonehaven as Hogmanay - and the world famous Fireball ceremony - draws ever closer.
The Fireballs is a unique tradition for Stonehaven, and oganisers are continuously trying to come up with ways to raise funds to make sure that it continues for many years to come.
This year, they have had a helping hand from local shop Dunnottar Wines, who have teamed up with the Lerwick Brewery to create a brand new beer dedicated to the annual event.
It is on sale now at the Evan Street shop, and will also be served in local pubs. Sister shop Deeside Drinks Emporium have also got some bottles in stock.
Mark Butler from Dunnottar Wines said: “We came up with idea, and teamed up with John Mercer, who is the director of the Lerwick Brewery. He lives in Stonehaven and wanted to do some thing to help out.
“Ian Wood from Creative Core offered to design and create the label for us free of charge.”
The label reads ‘The famous Stonehaven Fireballs Beer’, and features the figure of a man swinging a fireball. All of the profits from sales of the beer will go towards costs for the Fireballs.
The Fireballs Committee are hard at working raising funds for the event all year round, as they are faced with constantly rising costs and health and safety requirements. A group of volunteers help to organise the whole thing every year, and the committee are delighted by the efforts to help them.
The beer went on sale last Saturday. James Stephen from the Fireballs Committee said: “Sales are going well so far. We really need the money from the sales as costs have gone through the roof in the last few years.”
It’s the season to be merry, and it’s never been easier - or more fun! - to help raise funds for the Fireballs, so give it a try and let us know what you think!
