Organisers of the 25th Stonehaven Folk Festival are expecting a big attendance at this year’s event with it looking like a sell out.
Festival organiser Charlie West said: “All four evening concerts featuring artists such as Dougie MacLean, Mairearad Green and Anna Massie, Breabach and Paul Brady have sold out.
“There is still plenty to do over the weekend such as the Plainstones concert in the Square, the Cowie Fringe and the Aqua Ceilidh plus the usual sessions and workshops in the town’s Hotels and Bars”.
The festival starts today (Thursday) and there is a waiting list for tickets although there are usually some returns from people unable to make it on the night.
On Saturday there is a free concert in the town Square, Kid’s workshops, a singaround at the Legion with Arthur Johnstone and Danny Couper and the World Paper’n’Comb championships.
This year’s theme for the Championships is “loud Shirts” fancy dress is optional but adds to the fun.
On Saturday and Sunday there are workshops for a mixed level of abilities, most of them led by festival artists.
On Saturday and Sunday afternoon there is the “Steenhive Big Sing” a chance to join a group of people, learn some songs and sing them.
No experience is necessary, the group will be led by well known singer Christine Kydd.
Sunday morning starts off with the Aqua Ceilidh, lots of fun with a live ceilidh band and dances such as Drip the Willow and the Splashing White Sergeant.
After the Aqua Ceilidh there is the Cowie Fringe, held in the Recreation Club, providing a mix of Festival guests, local artists and a family ceilidh plus plenty of sessions and singarounds in the town’s hotels and bars.
The festival will see roughly 15 different venues used throughout the weekend including main events, fringe, events for young people and different workshops for all skill levels.
