The committee of Stonehaven Folk Festival are excited that this year’s line-up includes legendary Irish Super Group Patrick Street headlining on Saturday night.
This will be their only Scottish date on this tour and the first time they have played north of the Border since 2002.
Festival chairman, Charlie West, said: “It is quite a coup getting such a famous band to open their tour at the festival, and take part in many of the workshops and other events over the weekend”.
The band features Kevin Burke, Andy Irvine, Arty McGlynn and John Carty - veterans of Planxty, the Bothy Band, De Dannan and more they are known throughout the Irish music world as four of its most brilliant players.
The festival line up also includes some exciting young musicians including the Paddy Callaghan Trio, former BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year, and the Mischa Macpherson Trio, current BBC Radio 2 Folk award winners.
Also at the Festival will be the Gavin Marwick Journeyman spectacular, a 10-piece supergroup including the Old Blind Dogs All Stars, Up in the Air and Bellvue Rendevous. Their first concert at Celtic Connections sold out and finished to a standing ovation. This will be a rare chance to see the Journeyman show.
Other artists playing at the festival include the Nuala Kennedy Band, Lady Maisery, Jamie Smith’s MABON and Martin Carthy.
There will also be a full programme of workshops over the weekend plus sessions and singarounds and two free concerts on the Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
Secretary Meg Findlay said: “We have worked hard to provide a wide range of workshops this year with something for everyone including things like the Wee Sing for primary school children to Fiddle master classes with Kevin Burke. We are keen to provide opportunities for everybody to join in the fun”.
Beside the main musical events there are some fun things such as the ever popular World Paper’n’Comb Championships (Saturday) and the Aqua Ceilidh in the Open air pool (Sunday).
