With a new roof due to go on the Scout Hut in October thanks to fantastic local fundraising and donations, Laurencekirk Scout Group is now preparing for the next phase of refurbishment – although this time it hopes to manage with your votes rather than your money.
The group’s electrifying project to rewire and install new heating and insulation in the hut is in line for a £6,000 grant from the RBS CommunityForce Project, but only if it gets more votes than other entrants. Ed Steel of local company XBow scripted and filmed a humorous video involving Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to support the bid, which you can see at www.laurencekirkscouts.org.uk.
Voting runs until 23 October 2011. Voting is online, and the registration process takes less than 5 minutes. You have 3 votes if you choose to use them, but you can only use 1 for the Scout Group project. Voters must be 16 years or over, and resident in Great Britain. To vote, you need to:
1.Go to http://communityforce.rbs.co.uk/project/266 where you can view the bid as well as the group’s photos and video.
2.Click on ‘Register’ at the top of the page.
3.Put in your name and email address and a password, accept the terms and conditions, and tick whether you want to opt in or out of email communication from the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Scout Group chairperson Avril Nicoll said, “The local project with the most votes will win so, to be in with a chance, we are asking anyone with a connection to Laurencekirk or Scouting and access to the internet to support us. The secret will be ‘going viral’, so we would also be grateful if people could spread this message as widely as possible among friends, colleagues and family.”
