A Stonehaven woman has teamed up with her best pal to raise money for a charity close to their hearts - Edinburgh’s Moonwalk.
Caroline Campbell (42) was looking for a new challenge for the new year when she hit upon the idea of taking on the gruelling 26.2 mile moonwalk in June.
Participants, who traditionally wear a bra over their clothes for the walk, will complete the marathon-length course by moonlight through the capital city.
No stranger to an endurance challenge, Caroline is a keen runner and member of Stonehaven Running Club, and has taken part in several half marathons. Last year she entered the Stonehaven half for the first time and achieved a personal best.
Caroline didn’t stop there.
She said; “After a cancer scare last year, I entered the Whole Hog in Banchory and raised money for Marie Curie Cancer and got just over £700.”
Caroline signed up for the moonwalk alongside her best friend Michelle Wainwright and the two hope to raise £500 for Walk the Walk, a breast cancer charity which funds various projects and campaigns involved with the disease, supporting research and those who are currently affected.
Caroline added: “Michelle and I wanted to take part in a new challenge for 2014. What better way than to walk 26.2miles with one of your best friends and raise money for a great cause.”
The Moonwalk Edinburgh has succeeded in raising over £9 million at this event alone in just four years, and NHS hospitals from the Borders to the Highlands have benefitted from funding, as well as supporting centres for those affected by cancer.
