Newtonhill seven points clear at top

Don Athletic 2

Newtonhill 5

Newtonhill went into this fixture against Don Athletic knowing a win would put them seven points clear at the top of Division One East.

It took only 8 minutes before Newtonhill opened the scoring. Fisken coolly headed the ball into the net leaving the keeper flat footed. A couple of minutes later a brilliantly worked 1-2 between Law and Barraza saw Law supply a finish which gave the keeper no chance. Newtonhill were on top and Fisken scored his second of the game with another well placed header to take his season tally to 12.

The game was all but wrapped up in 24 minutes when a scramble in the box saw Ross smash the ball into the back of the net to put the visitors 4-0 up at half-time.

Newtonhill went 5-0 up when Carmichael was brought down and Barraza converted the penalty.

With a few nasty challenges starting to go in from the home side, Newtonhill made full use of their five subs. A scramble in the box from a corner saw the ball somehow slip under the foot of Newtonhill skipper Brooks foot for a consolation. Right at the death, a long ball from the back line saw a Don striker control the ball well and finish superbly.

Next up is a trip to Loganlea United from Livingston in the Scottish Cup third round.
