editorial image

The focus this week at the golf club turned indoors when the clubs annual general meeting was held last Thursday evening. Outgoing Captain Mike Rendall will be succeeded by Terry Middleton, Terry gave the members attending a brief presentation outlining his previous business experience and intimated his pride at taking over the Captaincy in the clubs 125th year.

New Vice Captain Bert Butchart was also approved by the members and joined Terry at the top table. With a mixture of re-election and newly elected Willie Donald, John Starrs, Stuart Paul, Ian Wood and Catherine Duncan were duly elected onto the golf club council, Grant Robb will also be utilised in a Junior Convenor role.

Thanks were paid to retiring Captain MIke Rendall who did a major amount of work in and around the golf course in the last year and also to Neil Irvine and Nan Byers who have served on the Stonehaven council for many years.

Terry and Bert are looking forward to their first council meeting in early February in their new roles when the newly elected and the remainder of the council will be assigned their duties and responsibilities.

New initiatives to attract new members and to keep the existing younger members were discussed, it was agreed to give a one off reduction of £100 to new members joining as full members, In addition 2 new young person membership categories have been created one for 18 to 21 year olds who will pay £180 and the other for 22 to 25 year olds whose annual subscription will be £280, it is hoped that these initiatives will see the membership increase in the current year.

Further details of these new categories will be released to the membership shortly.

This Saturday evening more than 60 members and guests will be attending the annual Burns Supper taking place in the Clubhouse.
